Unused medicine to be shipped to the needy

Turkey's Social Security Agency (SGK) has announced that unused medicine collected from the public will be delivered to countries with medicine shortages. Agency head Yadigar Gökalp İlhan said the project aims to put unused medicine to good use in the face of Turkish people's habit of storing over-the-counter medicine or surplus prescription drugs. Most people store medicine instead of disposing of it after they recover from illnesses.İlhan said there were 120 million boxes of medicine stored at home, and about 69 million of them are fit for consumption, while the rest consists of drugs past their expiration dates. He said that the project would also help to safely dispose of unusable drugs.
