Security boosted after plot against Sümeyye Erdoğan
Turkey stepped up security measures for Sümeyye Erdoğan, a daughter of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, after a plot to kill her was revealed last week. Erdoğan's security detail was entirely replaced while officers from the Turkish National Police's elite Special Operations unit were appointed to protect the president's 30-year-old daughter. Security measures were also stepped up for other members of the Erdoğan family. Turkish media outlets had revealed a correspondence between FuatAvni, a Twitter account linked to the Gülen Movement and Umut Oran, a lawmaker from the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP). According to the correspondence that was splashed on the front pages of some newspapers, Gülenists allegedly hired a contract killer to assassinate Sümeyye Erdoğan and had "an insider among her bodyguards." An investigation was launched into the plot while the president denounced the assassination attempt.Turkish media outlets had revealed a correspondence between FuatAvni, a Twitter account linked to the Gülen Movement and Umut Oran, a lawmaker from the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP).
