Ferry carrying 188 passengers runs aground in western Turkish city, Çanakkale

A ferry, carrying 188 passengers and 39 vehicles, ran aground on Sunday in Çanakkale, a western Turkish city. No injuries have been reported and the passengers have been waiting to be rescued.Anadolu Agency reported that the ferry, which was traveling from Eceabat district to Gökçeada district, diverted from its route for an unknown reason before running aground off Kuzu Harbour.Mayor of Çanakkale, Ahmet Çınar, confirmed that the ferry was carrying 188 passengers and 39 vehicles, "The reason has not yet been determined, but we will investigate the incident. Fortunately, it is not serious and there are no injuries," he said.Çınar said towboats from Çanakkale immediately headed towards the scene to pull the ferry to the harbour.
