PKK launches mortar attack on military base

The Turkish Armed Forces has revealed that terrorists from the PKK fired two mortars at a military base in Dağlıca, a district of Hakkari on the Turkish-Iraqi border on Sunday. No casualties were reported in the attack and the army said in a statement that the base was not damaged. The army also said troops in the base returned fire. The PKK ceased attacks two years ago after the government-sponsored reconciliation process, a series of steps to restore the rights of Kurds, from whom the PKK draws support, began. Although its fatal attacks, which have killed thousands in the past three decades, are on the decline, the PKK still poses a threat, especially in southeastern and eastern Turkey.
