Chinese travel agents request Buddhist temple
A delegation of Chinese travel agents is seeking permission to construct a Buddhist temple in Antalya, a southern Turkish vacation resort that is gaining popularity among Chinese tourists.
Fifteen representatives of travel agencies from China's Urumqi visited the governorate of Antalya and met with the city's deputy governor, Recep Yüksel. Yüksel said 114,000 Chinese tourists visited Turkey last year and Antalya received more than 2,000 of them, a 100 percent rise from the number of Chinese tourists visiting the seaside city in 2013.
Citing the growing popularity of Antalya for Chinese tourists, travel agents asked the governorate to grant permission for a Buddhist temple for visiting tourists. Yüksel said they would assess the request but implied that the permission would depend on a demand by Chinese nationals living in Antalya rather than tourists.
