PKK attacks military base in southeastern Turkey

A group of terrorrists affiliated with outlawed PKK opened fire on a military base located in Turkey's southeastern province of Siirt on Friday, according to a statement issued by the Turkish General Staff. The statement said that no casualties were reported in the attack and the base was not damaged as security forces responded with fire immediately. The PKK ceased attacks two years ago after the government-sponsored reconciliation process, a series of steps to restore the rights of Kurds, from whom the PKK draws support, began. Although its fatal attacks, which have killed thousands in the past three decades, are on the decline, the PKK still poses a threat, especially in southeastern and eastern Turkey.
