Representatives from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) will visit Turkey on Oct. 5 to make a technical presentation and offer insight about their tenders and purchases. CERN representatives will hold a conference at the Turkish Union of Chambers and Exchange Commodities (TOBB).

According to a written statement released by TOBB, representatives of industrial institutions, the private sector, state institutions and organizations and universities have been invited to the conference. In May, an agreement was signed allowing Turkish companies to participate in tenders held by CERN. "CERN, which purchases 500 million euros worth of service and equipment every year, will create a new market for Turkish companies while accelerating technological production in Turkey," said the statement.

The statement also underscored that CERN is home to the largest particle physics laboratory in the world.

During the process of the discovery of the Higgs boson, also known as the God particle, by CERN scientists François Englert and Peter W. Higgs, who won Nobel Prize for Physics, over 50 scientists from 20 Turkish universities participated in the experiments. The Higgs boson featured the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) among the institutions that supported the experiments.
