Suicide bombers carrying explosives have been arrested on Turkey's border with Syria less than two days before Sunday's general election, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Friday."This evening suicide bombers were arrested as they tried to flee to Syria," he said in an interview with Daily Sabah columnist Melih Altınok aired by ATV and A Haber television channels."They had 7 kilograms of TNT on them. God knows what they were planning to do, on the eve of the election. We are following these developments closely."Turks go to the polls on Sunday in the country's second general election in less than five months. The previous election was marred by bomb attacks in the days leading up to the June 7 vote and earlier this month 102 people were killed in a suicide attack in Ankara.The attacks have been linked to ISIS by the Ankara chief public prosecutor's office.The election comes as counterterrorism operations against the PKK continue in the southeast and civil war rages in Syria.In the interview, Erdoğan reiterated that operations would continue against the PKK after Sunday's vote.
