Special forces take PKK banner down, raise Turkish flag in southeastern Turkey


Turkish special forces carried out an anti-terror operation in the district of Cizre in southeastern Şırnak province on Monday. In the operation, a PKK banner was taken down from a pole and the Turkish flag was raised. PKK terrorists opened fire on Turkish security forces near the end of the operation. The gunfight was caught on camera. In the video, a bullet fired by PKK terrorists scared the journalists recording the action.The Turkish government has intensified its counterterror operations following the recent attacks carried out by the PKK, which is recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S., the EU and Turkey.Formed in 1978, the terrorist group has been fighting the Turkish government for an independent state until the early 2000's. The group then shifted its goal to autonomy in predominately Kurdish inhabited regions of Turkey.
