PKK militants beat man cycling for peace

A cyclist touring Turkey for his "Pedal For Peace" campaign, claimed he was beaten and robbed by a group of PKK militants in eastern Turkey. Meriç Şehit said he was saved by soldiers after seven militants from the terrorist organization stopped him in a mountainous area in the province of Kars on Sunday. "I was riding uphill in a passage. Suddenly, two cars pulled up and seven men carrying guns emerged. They were speaking in broken Turkish. They asked me if I was Turkish and when I said ‘yes,' they asked what I was doing in the passage. They told me it was ‘dangerous' to be there. Then, they started hitting me. They broke my bike and then, they seized my camera and clothes. One of them put a gun to my head while another broke my cellphone," he said. Şehit said the militants fled when soldiers patrolling the area saw them.
