Turkey's first visually-impaired high level bureaucrat, Kenan Önalan, became a role model for the youth by participating to the European Volunteer Training workshop, supported by the European Commission and Turkey's Ministry of Family and Social Policies under the scope of 'EngelsizFEST' [Enabled Fest], held between Nov 23-28 in Kokkola, Finland. The participation of Ministry of Family and Social Policies Advisor Önalan became a source inspiration for the youth participating in the workshop, which aims at supporting the less privileged youth aged 18 to 30, by providing cultural and sports programs. Önalan has been popular for his out-of-the-box activities, including rafting and sky-diving, and been promoting active participation of the disabled youth in the society. The project, which includes participants from Turkey, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Bulgaria, Germany, and Finland, also aims at introducing the value of volunteering and engaging the youth with disabilities in the social activities, as well as teaching them new skills to increase their participation in the society. Withing the scope of the project, EngelsizForum [EnableForum], Turkey's first large-scale European Volunteer Movement Project, will also take place on Dec. 4 in Ankara with representatives from 11 different countries.
