Two far-right nationalists stabbed three Afghan nationals in the Karaman region of the southern Adana province, mistaking the Afghanistan flag they were carrying on their backs with the flag of the terrorist organization the PKK.

The incident happened on Turgut Özal Avenue on Saturday, with the two attackers first accosting four Afghanis Shafoli Doust, 20, Nizam Alodu, 23, Sefer Ali Nazari, 18, and Ali Dat Niyazi, 18, demanding to know why they were carrying a PKK flag. After an argument, Doust, Alodu and Nazari were stabbed and taken to a nearby hospital. Niyazi, the only one escaping the attack without any injuries and the only one who can speak Turkish, said, "I tried to explain to them that it was the flag of Afghanistan. Still, they attacked." The police are trying to identify the culprits.

It is not the first time far-right nationalists have made such mistakes. Previously, a group of Korean tourists and a Uighur chef were attacked by nationalists protesting against Chinese oppression of the Uighur community. A protest against Russia in Istanbul devolved into a farce after a nationalist group held a demonstration in front of the Netherlands' consulate, mistaking the flags of the two countries.
