After street cat, troops save injured dog in al-Bab

A stray dog found injured under the rubble of a destroyed building in Syria's al-Bab was brought to Turkey Thursday for treatment and a new home. Named "Mucize" (miracle in Turkish), the dog is the latest animal to be evacuated from al-Bab after being liberated by Turkish-backed Syrian rebels during the ongoing conflict in Turkey's southern neighbor.Last week, a street cat named Barış (peace in Turkish) was brought to the country after a Turkish soldier discovered the fluffy animal starving in the war-torn town. The dog had a left foot injury when it was found trapped under concrete slabs in the rubble. Soldiers transported it to the Turkish border by a military vehicle and handed it over to a group of animal rights activists who also had the street cat Barış treated.Gamze Yıldırım, the veterinarian who treated Mucize, said the canine had serious injuries, including multiple cracks on its legs and a shrapnel lodged in one of its left legs but they hoped it would recover soon after having surgery.
