A magnitude-4.2 earthquake shook eastern Van province on Saturday, according to the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

No damages were reported after the quake struck at 00.30 a.m local time, at a depth of 19.85 kilometers, the agency said.

Turkey, which sits on a seismically active area, has been hit by a number of devastating earthquakes in its history, including one in the eastern province of Van in 2011 that killed more than 600 people and one outside Istanbul in 1999 that left 17,000 dead.
