Turkey to deport American man entering the country from Syria to US

A Turkish official confirmed on Friday that an American man has been arrested after crossing the border from Syria and handing himself over to the authorities.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity in line with government protocol, said Kary Paul Kleman arrived at Öncüpınar border crossing in Kilis province, along with his Syrian wife and four children, on April 20.

Kleman was arrested on April 24. His family was put under administrative detention to be deported to the U.S. in order to keep them together.

Kleman and his family crossed to Turkey with British man Stefan Aristidou, his British wife and child. Aristidou was also arrested and the family will be deported to the U.K., according to the official.

The official did not confirm reports that the men arrived from areas held by the Daesh.
