The first anniversary of the July 15 Gülenist coup attempt will be commemorated in the Turkish Parliament, with the attendance of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The Parliament will convene at 1 p.m. on July 15 and representatives of all four parties, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party), the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and the pro-PKK Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) will hold the floor for 10 minutes each after Parliamentary Speaker İsmail Kahraman's speech.
Representatives from foreign diplomatic missions and institutions in addition to Turkish citizens from around the country will be able to watch the convention in a designated area.
After the speeches, the convention will end and a photo exhibition will open in the Parliament's Şeref Hall, which will feature pictures taken by Anadolu Agency photographers on July 15, 2016.
In the Public Relations department of the Parliament, oil paintings of former AK Party Karaman deputy Zeki Ünal in which he depicted the coup night will be exhibited.
After attending the commemoration ceremony in the Parliament, Erdoğan will travel to Istanbul to join another commemoration event organized on the July 15 Martyrs Bridge in Istanbul and deliver a speech. The event will be broadcasted in front of the assembly's Şeref Gate at 02.32 a.m, when the first bomb was dropped on the parliament by pilots with links to the Gülenist terror group (FETÖ).
The former name of the first intercontinental bridge in the world was "Bosphorus Bridge," and it was renamed to July 15 Martyrs' Bridge after Gülenist coup soldiers opened fire on civilians on the bridge structure during the botched coup attempt. Many were killed on the bridge in addition to scores of wounded unarmed citizens who stood against the coup.
The Gülenist terror group is run by fugitive preacher Fetullah Gülen, who lives in self-imposed exile in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania. With his network of followers, he infiltrated into key positions in the Turkish government. With his militants embedded in the ranks of Turkish Armed Forces, he attempted to overthrow the democratically elected President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his government on July 15, 2016.
As a result of the coup attempt, 251 civilians died, and over 2500 were wounded. During the night, Gülen-linked soldiers ran over people with tanks, directly shot at them and bombed many governmental buildings including the Parliament, the Presidential Complex and the headquarters of National Intelligence Organization (MIT).
