A 57-year-old man in Turkey's southern Hatay province made a custom-made solar-powered wheelchair to enable his sick wife freely roam around the city without requiring assistance from others.

Salih Güzelmansur, who works as a truck driver and a farmer in Antakya district customized his wife's battery-operated wheelchair, which occasionally stopped on the streets and required assistance from those passing by, Anadolu Agency reported.

Meryem Güzelmansur, who has been his wife for 40 years, suffers from kidney disease and also has hearing and muscle problems, limiting her ability to move, Güzelmansur told AA.

He noted that he customized the wheelchair to allow his wife to freely roam without assistance from others.

"We placed a solar panel on top of the wheelchair, which can be charged with street lambs and headlights and also added a reflector to make sure that the wheelchair is seen by other vehicles" Güzelmansur said, adding that his wife is now able to go anywhere she wants to, without any concerns.
