Cappadocia's skyline to welcome domestic balloons

Turkish entrepreneurs teamed up with the Scientific and Technological and Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), Bilkent University, the Civil Aviation Foundation and the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communication to establish Turkey's first domestic hot air balloon production line.

Once the project is over, Cappadocia, the best place to hop on a hot air balloon in Turkey, will be the center of Turkey's domestic hot air balloons.

Companies that organize hot air balloon tours in Cappadocia often buy the balloons from the U.K., Spain and the cost varies from 100,000 euros ($117,448) to 160,000 euros. However, the new domestic hot air balloons will cost 70,000 euros to 80,000 euros for the manufacturers.

Once the companies in Cappadocia begin to use the domestic balloons, they will also be able to maintain the balloons in Turkey and will not have to wait months for spare parts.

There are approximately 130 hot air balloon flights in Cappadocia and each of these balloons can be used for only five years. After 1,200 hours of flight, the hot air balloon retires.
