An international symposium on Turkey's defeated coup attempt in July 2016 is set to draw politicians, academics, journalists and analysts from around the world.

On Oct. 26-28, Kocaeli province will host a series of discussions on "July 15 and Coups D'etat: Global Effects, Media and Democracy."

Turkish leaders, including Deputy Prime Ministers Bekir Bozdağ and Fikri Işık, and Culture Minister Numan Kurtulmuş will give the opening speeches at the international symposium.

Gunter Verheugen, former European commissioner for enlargement, will deliver a speech: "European Values and Democratic Stance against Coups D'etat: Is the Language Union Possible in the Order of Global Terror and Coups?"

Presidential spokesman İbrahim Kalın will also address the symposium on the "July 15 coup: Democracy and the World System."

The parliamentary speaker of Azerbaijan, Ogtay Asadov, and Edin Music, chairman of Bosnia's House of Representatives, are also scheduled to speak at the event.

Media personalities will also attend the symposium, including reporter Hande Fırat, who is known internationally as the reporter who held a live FaceTime call from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the coup attempt last year.

Wadah Khanfar, the former CEO of Al-Jazeera, will also be speaking at the "July 15 and the Media" plenary session.

Academics from 30 countries, including Turkey, will also analyze coups, their basis, impacts and methods of fighting them.
