Lucky lottery ticket holder wins $11.4 million in Turkish jackpot

One lucky Turkish lottery ticket holder in Turkey's northeastern Erzincan province hit the jackpot of 42.5 million ($11.4 million) in Thursday evening's draw.

The lottery, based on six numbers chosen randomly within of a column of 1 to 54, had not hit lucky numbers for the last 11 weeks. As of last week, the amount gathered ahead of the draw was TL 34.5 million.

Local news outlets reported queues in front of kiosks in several cities ahead of the draw organized by Milli Piyango, Turkey's national lottery administration.

A record jackpot of TL 49.8 million (then $28.4 million) was divided among two people on March 13, 2009, whereas one lucky person gained the grand prize of TL 37.8 million (then $10.4 million) on July 6, 2017.

The single largest jackpot distributed in Turkey was TL 61 million in 2018 in the traditional new year's draw, which was divided among four people.
