A 21-one-year-old man failed miserably in surprising his girlfriend with balloons and flowers two days before Valentine's Day.

Mehmet C. climbed a pipe and rails to reach the window of his unidentified girlfriend in the western Turkish town of Nazilli late Monday.

Just as he reached out to the window of the second-floor house, the young man lost his balance and fell on the canopy above the balcony of the first-floor house and then into the balcony. He sustained slight injuries in his daring attempt.

"I just wanted to surprise her," he told reporters after he was questioned by police for his stunt that amounted to a break-in. His girlfriend did not comment.
