A 22-year-old woman was sentenced to life yesterday for the death of a 3-year-old girl who fell to her death in the southern city of Mersin.

Türkan İ. was charged with murder as she was accused of throwing young Shana Hira Dağ out the window of girl's 12th floor home in March 2017. The suspect was a relative of Dağ's parents who were in another room at the time of the incident. She claimed it was an accident, saying the girl slipped out of her arms as they were looking out the window.

Prosecutors have asked for an aggravated life sentence for the defendant. The defendant denied the charges in the last hearing of the trial. "I am a mother too. I would never hurt any living thing," she said before the court announced its verdict.
