Taxi driver who scammed Saudi tourist faces 10 years in prison

Turkish media reported yesterday that prosecutors in Istanbul sought up to 10 years in prison for fraud for a taxi driver who scammed a Saudi tourist.

The tourist hailed a ride in Kadıköy to Sabiha Gökçen Airport for a flight, when the driver, identified as E.C., took him on a lengthy ride from city's Asian side where both Kadıköy and the airport are located, to the European side.

The long ride caused the passenger to miss his flight and pay an undisclosed, higher sum than he expected. The driver has claimed he took the wrong exit by mistake and ended up crossing a bridge to the European side.
