An explosion in a dry cargo vessel killed one person and injured another near the Black Sea province of Sinop on Wednesday, according to initial reports.

According to the information obtained by Anadolu Agency correspondents, the explosion occurred due to a gas leak in the boiler room of the vessel, which anchored 15 miles off Sinop province.

Mümtaz Amca, the Liberia-flagged vessel, was brought four miles off Sinop's coast following the explosion.

An air ambulance was unable to pick Kazım Sucu's body due to strong wind gusts.

Injured crew member Ragıp Yanak, who was rescued by a maritime police boat, has been referred to a state hospital.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), fire-fighters and police teams are present on the shore for rescue work.
