A German court yesterday sentenced Rahmi Turan to 100 days in prison for his journalistic work. Turan, the Germany correspondent for Turkey's A Haber TV – a sister company of Daily Sabah – was on trial for describing a school in the city of Augsburg as a place run by the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ).

The journalist faced lawsuit from the administrators of the school, which was shut down due to lack of students after parents pulled their children from the school following the coup attempt in Turkey by FETÖ. Okan Kara, a Turkish resident of Augsburg, was earlier fined 5,000 euros by a German court for his posts disclosing school's ties to the terrorist group.

Turan said on his social media account that he would appeal to the sentence.
