Turkish athletes take home 29 medals in kickboxing championship


Turkish national athletes won a total of 29 medals in the WAKO Kickboxing Junior and Cadet World Championships that were held at Palazzo del Turismo, Italy.

According to the Turkish Kickboxing Federation, the athletes took home 5 gold, 9 silver and 15 bronze medals after competing against 757 athletes from 51 countries.

Saim Kayıcı, president of the federation, congratulated all the competitors for their efforts and thanked their trainers for preparing the athletes for the competitions.

Cengizhan Kuru (full contact 75 kg), Hamide Yavuz (full contact 52 kg), Mahsum Teker (full contact 86 kg), Doğukan Güzelkabaağaç (full contact 91 kg) and Can Özbatur (low kick +91 kg) all received gold medals.

Esra Özyol (full contact 56 kg), Gözde Nur Göktaş (full contact 65 kg), Yasin Berat Dikmen (full contact 57 kg), Büşra Taştemir (low kick 48 kg), Devrim Aydın (low kick 60 kg), Fevzi Kurt (low kick 54 kg), Mehmet Yalçın (low kick 57 kg), Batuhan Bayram Demir (low kick 86 kg) and Mert Şahbaz (point fighting 94 kg) all took home silver medals.

Sevcan Çakırca (full contact 48 kg), Beyza Çelik (full contact 60 kg), Fatih Koçyiğit (full contact 51 kg), Abdulselam Kurt (full contact 63,5 kg), Arda Gözütok (full contact 81 kg), Batuhan Yoldemir (full contact +91 kg), Perihan İnce (low kick 56 kg), Rümeysa Ataş (low kick 65 kg), Dilan Çetin (low kick 70 kg), Ersin Şahin (low kick 75 kg), Hacı İbrahim Özkul (low kick 91 kg), Salim Özkan (point fighting +94 kg), Sultan Sağlam (light contact 55 kg), Talha Emir Buldu (light contact 89 kg) and Mehmet Memilioğlu (light contact 94 kg). received bronze medals.

Turkish athletes won 12 medals, including five golds, in the 2018 Mediterranean Games which were held in June. The WAKO World Kickboxing Championships for Cadets and Juniors, one of the most significant events in the world of martial arts, were held in the town of Jesolo, Metropolitan City of Venice, Italy between Sept. 15 and Sept. 23. The event was organized by ASD Euro Kickboxing Chioggia in association with Federazione Italiana Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Savate, Shoot Boxe and Sambo.
