Average life expectancy at birth for Turkish citizens reached 78 years between 2015 and 2017, according to data released Wednesday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).

Women statistically outlived men by 5.5 years as average life expectancy stood at 75.3 years for men and 80.8 years for women.

For 15 year olds, who are at the minimum age to start working, average life expectancy is 64.1 years in general, 61.5 years for males and 66.8 years for females.

For 30 year olds, remaining life expectancy is 49.6. This life span is 47.1 for men and 52.1 for women.

For 50 year olds, the average remaining life span is 30.5 years in general, 28.2 years for males and 32.7 years for females.

For 65 years olds, women also outlived men by 3.2 years and this life span is 17.7 in general, 16 years for males and 19.2 years for females.

Tunceli, a province in the eastern part of Turkey, had the highest life expectancy with 80.7 years, followed by southwestern Muğla province with 80.3 and northeastern Trabzon province with 80 years.

Provinces with lowest life expectancy were southeastern Kilis province with 76.1 years, followed by eastern Ağrı province and western Kütahya province with 76.8, northeastern Ardahan province and southeastern Gaziantep province with 76.9 years.

Males had the highest life expectancy in Muğla with 77.6 years, followed by Tunceli with 77.4 years and southeastern Adıyaman province with 77.3 years. The lowest life expectancy for males was in Kilis with 72.9 years, followed by the southeastern provinces of Şırnak with 73.4 and Hakkari with 74.1 years.

Females had the highest life expectancy in Tunceli with 84.2 years, followed by the northeastern provinces of Gümüşhane with 83.5 and Trabzon with 83.4 years. The lowest life expectancy for females was in Kütahya with 79.1 years, followed by eastern Ağrı province with 79.3 and the southeastern provinces of Gaziantep, Van, Kilis with 79.5 years.

Average life expectancy was 78.7 years in Istanbul, and the figure was 79.4 for Ankara. As Turkey's most populous provinces, Istanbul and Ankara stood above the averages of the country.
