Firefighting efforts continue Wednesday against forest fires in the southern Turkish provinces of Adana and Antalya, while a blaze in neighboring Mersin province is largely brought under control.
In Adana, a forest fire that started in the rural Doğanalanı neighborhood of the Kozan district has spread to forested areas in the neighboring districts of Imamoğlu and Aladağ.
Aerial firefighting operations began at daylight after crews battled flames on the ground throughout the night.
A total of 112 vehicles and 476 personnel are deployed in the firefighting operation. Resources include three aircraft, nine helicopters, two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), 55 water tankers, 14 water trucks, seven construction machines and various emergency response vehicles.
Authorities evacuated 40 homes in the Enizçakırı neighborhood as a precaution.
Fire spreads in Antalya
In Antalya, a forest fire that started near the Karaöz neighborhood in the Aksu district has spread toward the Kepez district, fueled by strong winds.
Fire crews continue operations around the Karaöz, Hatipler, Yeşilkaraman, Kızıllı and Çamlıca neighborhoods, using water tankers and construction machinery throughout the night.
Aerial operations also resumed in the morning, with three aircraft and nine helicopters supporting ground crews.
A total of 165 water tankers and more than 1,000 personnel are involved in efforts to bring the fire under control.
The blaze, which started on Monday evening, prompted authorities to evacuate 254 homes across four neighborhoods in Aksu and Kepez. Eight people were treated for smoke inhalation at a nearby hospital.
Mersin fire largely under control
In Mersin's Bozyazı district, a forest fire that broke out in the Tekeli neighborhood has largely been controlled following overnight firefighting operations.
Crews from the Regional Directorate of Forestry and the Metropolitan Municipality continue working to completely extinguish the flames, with both ground and aerial operations underway.
The fire started in a forested area above banana greenhouses in the Aksaz area. Its cause remains unknown.
Authorities deployed 230 personnel, two aircraft, five helicopters and numerous ground vehicles to the area following the initial report.
