92 smuggled artifacts seized in Izmir, 1 detained

Izmir police seized 92 historical artifacts dating back to the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods. One person was detained for smuggling the objects.

Teams of the Ödemiş Smuggling and Organized Crime Bureau followed the suspect, identified as M.S., suspected of smuggling historical artifacts. After a follow-up, the police raided two different addresses in the Bayındır and Torbalı districts. They seized 64 objects, 20 coins, seven seals, a statue and several other items from the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires.
