Search efforts continued for a sixth day for 10 crew members missing after the Tuğberk Imamoğlu ship sank following a collision with the Alsu vessel off Silivri, Istanbul, on Sept. 2.

The accident occurred about 18 nautical miles south of Silivri district, Istanbul, when the Turkish-flagged 90-meter-long (295-foot) commercial ship Alsu, traveling from Kocaeli in northwestern Türkiye to Aliağa in Izmir province, collided with the Tuğberk Imamoğlu ship, which was sailing from Iskenderun Port in Hatay province to Karadeniz Ereğli in Zonguldak province.

The Tuğberk Imamoğlu ship sank following the collision. Search and rescue operations at sea for its 10 crew members have continued since the accident after no contact could be established with them.

The wreck of the Tuğberk Imamoğlu ship was located on the fourth day of the accident following operations by the TCG Akın, a Turkish Naval Forces vessel, using advanced sonar systems and a remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV).

Following the discovery of the wreck, search efforts were intensified to locate and reach the 10 missing crew members.

Relatives of the 10 missing crew members continue to wait at a coordination point established for them along the Silivri coast.

The families are being regularly informed by rescue teams about developments in the search and rescue operation.
