A South Korean tourist visiting Mardin, in southeastern Türkiye, converted to Islam during a ceremony at the Artuklu District Mufti’s Office.

According to a statement from the mufti’s office, the tourist decided to convert while visiting Mardin for a holiday, prompting officials to organize a conversion ceremony at the office.

During the ceremony, led by District Mufti Süleyman Baran, the tourist, identified as Shaevn, recited the testimony of faith, known as the Shahada, and embraced Islam.

Shaevn took the name "Abdullah” following the ceremony, while Baran presented him with a copy of the Quran as a gift.

The conversion comes as Türkiye has seen other foreign tourists embrace Islam during their visits to the country, drawn in part by its rich cultural and religious heritage.
