The number of people registered on the mobile application of Türkiye’s Deposit Management System for Packaging (DOA) has reached 3 million, according to information from the Türkiye Environment Agency.

The national integration process for the DOA system, launched July 1, is continuing, according to the agency, which operates under the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.

Antalya and Izmir, in southern and western Türkiye, along with Istanbul, are among the provinces showing the highest levels of interest in the system, with both participation and use of packaging return points higher than in other provinces.

Under the system, citizens receive a TL 1 ($0.021) incentive for each eligible package they return. The payment is transferred to their DOA Wallet, which allows users to spend their balance on purchases, transfer it to their bank accounts, withdraw it from ATMs or use it to pay bills.

The system therefore enables citizens to use the incentives they earn from returning packaging for a range of everyday needs.

Authorities are also introducing new campaigns and initiatives alongside financial incentives to encourage greater participation in the system.

Projects such as the "100,000 Packaging Challenge” are being implemented to encourage citizens to participate more actively and help promote recycling habits.

The authorities plan to expand the range of uses available through the DOA Wallet and introduce different incentive and participation models to make the system more attractive.
