127 terrorists killed in Nusaybin in two weeks, curfew in İdil partially lifted


The Mardin Governorate said on Wednesday in a written statement that 127 PKK terrorists have been killed, 96 barricades removed and 227 handmade explosives destroyed in Mardin's Nusaybin district since the beginning of extensive counterterror operations on March 14.Launched to re-ensure public order and wipe out the PKK's urban presence, counterterror operations have dealt a heavy blow to the terrorist organization in Nusaybin.Even though the PKK and affiliated circles have claimed from time to time that health care services and other basic needs in urban centers are lacking, the governorate said 80 citizens have received food aid and 295 have received services from pharmacies. All calls for ambulances have been responded to as well, the statement further said."Operations carried out in the fight against the members of the separatist [PKK] terrorist organization continue in order for our citizens in the region to live in peace and security," the statement added.Having wiped out all PKK terrorists in four districts of the region since mid-December, the focus of current counterterror operations shifted to Nusaybin and Yüksekova earlier in March. The curfew in the district was imposed "due to escalating terror activity in the region" and to ensure the "security of citizens' lives and property," according to a statement from the governorate.CURFEW IN İDİL PARTIALLY LIFTEDThe 40-day curfew in the İdil district of Şırnak province has been partially lifted, a written statement from the Şırnak governorate said on Wednesday. According to the statement, the curfew will still be in effect between 9:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. The new curfew will go into effect Thursday.Anti-PKK operations conducted by security forces in the district came to an end in early March, a security source had said.The 20-day operation in the district resulted in the killing of 114 PKK terrorists and the seizure of weapons including rocket launchers, hand grenades and rifles, a source said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.In total, 175 barricades were removed, 56 ditches were filled in, 3,100 buildings cleared and 47 rifles, five rocket launchers and 144 grenades captured in İdil in the operations.23 TERRORISTS KILLED ON TUESDAYThe military killed 23 PKK terrorists during counterterror operations in the southeast on Tuesday, the General Staff said.According to a statement released on Wednesday, 14 terrorists were killed in Nusaybin in Mardin province, five in Şırnak province and four in Yüksekova in Hakkari province.Weapons were also seized during the operations, the statement added.The total number of terrorists killed in the three regions since operations were launched in mid-March is 347.The PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July. Since then, more than 350 members of the security forces have been killed as well as thousands of PKK terrorists.
