Three suspects seeking to join DAESH detained in Gaziantep

Three DAESH hopefuls seeking to join the terrorist organization were detained in southeastern Gaziantep province on Monday.

Police stopped a vehicle with three people at the entrance to the Karkamış district and questioned them. G.Ç., İ.U and N.Ç. said that they were coming from Istanbul.

In the interrogation, the suspects reportedly acknowledged that they were heading to Jarablous to join DAESH in Syria.

Turkish officials have repeatedly said that Ankara does not differentiate between any terror groups and would fight DAESH as hard as it strikes at the PKK.

Speaking at a press conference in Ankara, presidential spokesman İbrahim Kalın said on Monday that Turkey continues to fight terrorism to ensure security at home and has caught terrorists and potential suicide bombers in recent weeks.

"In line with these measures, 36,650 people from 125 countries have been barred from entering the country as of January 2016 and 3,065 people from 93 countries have been deported," he said.

He said that the world should free itself from DAESH terrorists who have been fueled by the brutal five-year civil war in Syria.

Kalın said that it is crucial to fight terrorism to the finish and that Turkey has been doing its part in this regard: "With the work of our Interior Ministry and the National Intelligence Organization [MİT], many terrorists and [potential] suicide bombers were caught," Kalın said, adding that security officials have captured bomb-laden vehicles.

Three Iraqi nationals suspected of being DAESH extremists were detained on Sunday together with a Syrian national while security forces were searching a bus in Kilis. It was detected that the four could cross the border illegally through tunnels dug from Syria into the southeastern border province of Kilis.

Elsewhere in Gaziantep, six DAESH suspects were detained following intelligence indicating that a group of Syrian nationals was going to cross the border. Security forces caught the suspects in the Oğuzeli district of the province and referred them to court.
