Turkish police have detained a suspected suicide bomber linked to the PKK terrorist group on Wednesday at a highway checkpoint in Ankara.

The 21-year-old suspect, R.I., identified only by her initials, was already sought by security forces for plotting a suicide bomb attack. According to sources, PKK group added her to the list of members to carry out a suicide bomb attack since she was suffering from a serious lung disease.

The suspect had been receiving treatment at a hospital in southeastern Diyarbakır province for a month and a half, however, sources said she left the hospital and headed to Ankara.

In February, the terrorist group carried out a bombing in Ankara, which was the third attack in the capital in recent months.

A car bomb exploded at the Kızılay Square while military service vehicles were passing in central Ankara on Feb. 17, killing 29 civilians and military personnel and injuring 61 others.

The PKK-listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and EU-resumed its 30-year armed campaign against Turkey in July.

Since then, more than 350 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of terrorists killed.
