No mercy, shooting allowed, Gülenist coup soldiers say during coup attempt
Written records from WhatsApp messages exchanged among Gülenist coup soldiers during the failed coup attempt on July 15 have been revealed.
Following an investigation into a WhatsApp group in which Gülenist coup soldiers exchanged information and orders, the records revealed that the putschists urged each other to show no mercy and open fire if needed.
The Gülenist soldiers also informed each other about the latest developments during the coup.
Before obtaining the written records of the messages, the public had learned about the WhatsApp group via a video on the internet.
The phone belonging to a detained commissioned officer contained a discussion between senior military officials during the attempted implementation of martial law. The conversation also named the individuals claimed to be at the heart of the coup plot.
The messages included the names of people the coup soldiers wanted to arrest as well as orders to raid the headquarters of the state broadcaster Turkish Radio and Television (TRT) and CNN Türk.
The military officials who are accused of having ties with the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ) also ordered people to open fire on anyone if they attempted to halt the coup.
Another message revealed the order to fire on the hotel President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was staying in on Friday evening.
Around 25 soldiers in helicopters descended on a hotel in Marmaris on ropes and shooting just after Erdoğan had left in an apparent attempt to seize him, CNN Türk reported.
