95 pct of Turks say FETÖ behind coup attempt without doubt


An overwhelming majority of participants in a recent survey think that the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ) was behind the bloody, failed coup attempt on July 15 that claimed the lives of scores of civilians and many police officers.

According to an ORC Research Company survey conducted in 33 provinces between July 22 and July 24, 95 percent of participants firmly believe that the FETÖ orchestrated the failed coup attempt.

When respondent were asked if they support the operations carried out against the FETÖ members who had infiltrated state institutions, including the judiciary, military and police, 96 percent said they do.

The survey also found that the support for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is at 79 percent and support for the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) is at 72 percent.

When asked about the recently declared state of emergency for the next three months, over 70 percent of respondents said they find the decision right.

Re-instituting the death penalty, which has been debated a lot recently both in Turkey and abroad, received overwhelming support as well, with 91.5 percent of the interviewees supporting it.
