Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu was in Islamabad, Pakistan on Monday with the Gülenist Terror Organization (FETÖ) topping the agenda of meetings in which he and Pakistani Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz agreed to close cooperation in tackling Gülenist institutions in Pakistan. As part of the official visit, Çavuşoğlu met with Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain as well. Çavuşoğlu attended the opening ceremony of Turkish Airlines' (THY) Islamabad office as well as the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency's (TİKA) donation ceremony for health and education projects where he gave details about 26 health clinics that are to be opened in Ravalpindi.

Speaking to the media at a joint press conference in Islamabad, Çavuşoğlu said that Pakistani officials are well-aware of Gülenist activities and that they are in joint cooperation in measures to take against them. While Çavuşoğlu asserted that Turkish and Pakistani officials are jointly working on measures to avoid any disruption in the academic activities of students attending Gülen schools and families, Pakistani sources previously indicated that the Pakistani government is ready to hand over control of the schools tied to U.S.-based FETÖ leader Fethullah Gülen to Turkish authorities. Çavuşoğlu said that Turkish authorities have given official documents and evidence of FETÖ activities in its schools and institutions in Pakistan. Additionally to Çavuşoğlu and Aziz's remarks, Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakria said: "In essence, in keeping with the cordial relations between the two countries, we are maintaining close contact with Turkey to address the matter in a manner that fully addresses Turkey's concerns as well as those of the students."

Aziz said that the relationship between the two countries is strategic and that it is evidence of peace in the region.
