Turkish security forces killed 13 members of the PKK terrorist group on Monday in airstrikes in the southeastern province of Siirt.

The operation in a rural area of the province involved F-16 jets, the source said on the condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

Elsewhere on the same day, a lorry driver was killed by a PKK roadside bomb in Turkey's southeastern Hakkari province, a security source said.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, the source told Anadolu Agency (AA) that PKK terrorists detonated the bomb in the Semdinli district as the lorry passed by.

The driver of vehicle has not been identified.

Security forces have launched an operation in the region to catch the perpetrators.

Previously, two village guards were killed and one guard was injured in a PKK terror bombing in Turkey's southeastern Şırnak province on Saturday.

The guards were checking an area 200 meters away from the bridge that they were patrolling when the terrorists detonated the explosives.

A wide-scale operation was launched in the area to find and capture the terrorists who detonated the bomb.

Village guards act as local militias in towns and villages protecting the public from attacks and reprisals by the PKK terrorists.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU, resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, over 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers and village guards have been killed and more than 7,000 PKK terrorists have been killed in operations across Turkey and Northern Iraq.
