A police chief linked with the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ) committed suicide as he was being captured in an operation conducted in the southeastern Hatay province late Tuesday.Ahmet Beşli, 39, was found by police for his links with the terror cult and he was captured together with two other police in the police office in the Belen district of Hatay. After detaining two officers, police in the operation also wanted to detain Beşli and ordered him to return his gun.

However he refused to surrender and put the gun to his head and fired. The wounded police chief was sent to hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

Turkish media reported Wednesday that Beşli will be buried in the southeastern province of Şanlıurfa.

One of the institutions that FETÖ infiltrated is the police. In 2013, they declared war on Turkey by illegal wiretapping thousands of people, putting on sham trials to imprison FETÖ 's critics, money laundering, blackmail, extortion and forgery through infiltrators. The terror cult is a national threat and a terror organization and is accused of a long sheet of crimes, the latest being the July 15 coup attempt.
