Istanbul police target Daesh terror suspects in city-wide operations

Istanbul police launched an operation targeting the Daesh terrorist organization early Friday in city's several districts, a police source said.

Counter-terrorist forces carried out simultaneous raids at dawn in more than 10 districts, including Fatih and Güngören, arresting several suspects. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, did not specify how many.

Among those apprehended on suspicion of "being members of the Daesh terrorist organization" were women and Palestinians, according to the source.

Special operation forces also took part in the raids.

More than 100 suspected Daesh terrorists were arrested in Turkey in June, according to figures compiled from law enforcement agency records.

Daesh has carried out several suicide attacks in Turkey since 2015.
