President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said yesterday that the U.S. is making things difficult in the issue of Turkey's request for the extradition of Fethullah Gülen, the U.S.-based leader of the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ), and described this approach as ominous to the strategic alliance between two countries.Indicating that Ankara was told of the process as Washington started to investigate 85 boxes of files regarding FETÖ, Erdoğan said he does not find their statements convincing in the framework of the extradition agreement between two countries. "However it [the U.S.] dodges the issue here. We will tell this to [U.S. Vice President Joe] Biden. We did not demand documents and information from US officials for the criminals they wanted so far. We will demand the extradition of the leader of a terrorist group that is clearly designated by the National Security Council [MGK] and our government and we will present documents for it," the president said.He also stated that the U.S.'s questioning attitude regarding Gülen's involvement in the July 15 coup attempt "bodes badly for the strategic partnership" that the two countries have.
