The Turkish Air Forces carried out an operation on identified targets belonging to Daesh with F-16 fighter jets in Syria's Kulliyah region on Tuesday, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) announced.

According to the announcement, the operation was carried out as part of Euphrates Shield, the military operation that aims to support U.S.-led coalition forces and strengthen Turkey's border security by clearing away terrorist groups.

The TSK stated that the operation was carried out in line with the 51st article of the United Nation Charter, cites the country's right to self-defense borne out of international treaties and United Nations' decisions on fighting against Daesh. It was underscored that the TSK took great care to prevent civilian casualties during the air operation, which occurred between 8:20 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Turkish F-16 fighter jets also targeted positions of the PKK terror organization in rural Çukurca areas of southeastern Hakkari province facing the Iraqi border on Tuesday evening and on Wednesday.

A total of 10 positions were targeted and destroyed in the airstrikes, the statement said, adding that the jets safely returned to their bases.

On Monday during a rally in southeastern Gaziantep province, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Turkey would continue its fight against terrorism both at home and in neighboring countries until Daesh and the PKK stop being a threat.
