One soldier died and 20 PKK terrorists were killed late on Thursday during an anti terror operation against the terror organization in the border province of Hakkari, the governor of the province said on Friday.

Six security forces were also reportedly injured in the operation carried out in the Çukurca district, located on the Syrian borderline.

Turkish warplanes also struck and destroyed two targets during the operation between 9:30 - 9:48 p.m. local time according to military sources.

Meanwhile, PKK terrorists killed three village guards and injured four others on the Tendürek mountain of Turkey's eastern Van province on Friday.

The PKK terrorist organization has increased its deadly terror attacks since it unilaterally ended peace negotiations in July in 2015.

The two-and-a-half year-long peace process, which was initiated by the Turkish government in 2012 when the current President Recep Tayiip Erdoğan was prime minister, aimed to resolve the long-running conflict in Turkey.

Since the end of the ceasefire in July last year, the terror organization has killed hundreds of people, including security personnel and civilians, not only in southern Turkey but also in western part of the country.

Following the increasing terror attacks by the PKK, which is listed as a terror organization by the U.S. and EU, the Turkish government has intensified its counterterror operations.
