525 DAESH targets hit, 845 sq km cleansed

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) hit a DAESH position in northern Syria on Wednesday, according to an official statement. The statement issued by the General Staff said the "position of the DAESH terror organization was hit with six Fırtına [storm] howitzers." It also said a total of 525 targets had been hit since the launch of Operation Euphrates Shield – which aims to drive DAESH out of the region in the south of Turkey's border – on Aug. 24. In addition, a total area of 845 square kilometers has been cleansed of DAESH terrorists, the statement said.

Apart from purging the region of DAESH terrorists, the statement said that Turkish aid organizations such as the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and the Turkish Red Crescent have been supplying humanitarian aid to civilians in Syria.

The TSK also said that great care is being taken with operations on the ground to prevent civilian casualties.

The Turkish military launched Operation Euphrates Shield in cooperation with the Free Syrian Army (FSA) on Aug. 24 to clear its southern border of DAESH terrorists and liberate northern Syrian towns from the terrorist group.

In less than a day, the Turkish-backed FSA liberated Jarablus and continued marching from the east and the west. On Sept. 4, the FSA secured the entirety of Turkey's border with northern Syria, ridding it of DAESH. Since then the opposition army has been advancing towards the south. According to the FSA, the operation will continue with the aim of capturing the strategic town of al-Bab to the south.

As Turkey cleared its southern border and many towns in northern Syria, Syrians regained their hopes of returning home.
