Turkey-backed FSA liberates 2 more areas from DAESH


The Turkish military said on Monday that Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters took control of two residential areas from DAESH.

In a statement, the Turkish General Staff said the Sandarah and Kardish areas, located in Syria's al-Rai region, were captured as part of Operation Euphrates Shield. This operation began last month and saw the FSA, backed by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), take the city of Jarablus from DAESH. The two areas lie to the west of the town of al-Rai, known as Çobanbey in Turkish. Monday's statement added that 900 square kilometers had been cleansed of terrorists. The statement also said 75 DAESH targets were hit with 289 rounds from Fırıina howitzers by the Turkish Army in northern Syria.

The statement added that over 760 DAESH targets had been struck since the start of Operation Euphrates Shield on Aug. 24.Meanwhile, Taha Atrak, the FSA's Aleppo division commander, told Anadolu Agency that Turkey has been by the FSA's side. "Turkey is the country that has really supported us so far," he said. "We just want to see Turkish soldiers with us," the commander told Anadolu Agency.

TWO SOLDIERS DEAD IN EXPLOSION

According to a Turkish news agency, two soldiers died in an explosion while erecting a border wall along the Syrian border in the Karkamış district of southern Gaziantep province. The soldiers were wounded in the explosion and then transferred to a hospital in central Gaziantep.

Sources told the news agency that the soldiers were working in the construction of a wall along the border in an area between Jarablus and al-Rai.
