60 more DAESH targets destroyed in northern Syria

The Turkish military said in a written statement that 60 DAESH targets were destroyed on the 28th day of Operation Euphrates Shield.

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) said that the military has hit 60 DAESH targets with 171 howitzer shots. In total, the TSK has hit 824 DAESH targets with 3,330 howitzer shots since the beginning of Operation Euphrates Shield on Aug. 24. The statement further said that the coalition forces conducted three airstrikes against DAESH elements in the Zeytinlik region of northern Syria, killing four DAESH terrorists and destroying two buildings. The military also gave information about the advances made by the Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA). It said that the FSA was continuing its march toward the south of al-Rai region. The FSA seized control in the Bahvurtah and Cakka neighborhoods, the TSK added. The Turkish military launched a cross-border operation on Aug. 24 named Operation Euphrates Shield along with the U.S.-led coalition in northern Syria to clear the area of DAESH terrorists.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Fikri Işık said yesterday that Turkey does not plan to move its infantry into Syria.

Speaking to reporters in the central city of Eskişehir, Işık said: "We are providing and will continue to provide all kinds of needed support for the Free Syrian Army (FSA), but as of today we do not have any plans to participate in the operation with our infantry."

Işık said Operation Euphrates Shield would continue until "Turkey guarantees its safety."
