Turkish drone ‘Bayraktar’ guides Turkish security forces to kill six PKK terrorists

Six PKK terrorists have been killed using the guidance of the Turkish armed-drone "Bayraktar" in a counterterror operation in Turkey's southeastern Hakkari province on Thursday, military sources said.

The terrorists' weapon storage facility, near their locations in Hakkari's Yüksekova district, was also destroyed by Turkish security forces.

The full name of the Turkish-engineered drone is the "Bayraktar TB2" and it is being used in operations against terrorist groups in the region.

The domestic drone has been used as a surveillance drone by the military since 2014. The project is part of Turkey's efforts to satisfy its military needs through domestically produced weapons.

The Bayraktar TB2 is the first drone successfully complying Turkish Armed Forces Acceptance Test in its class and it had previously proved its accuracy during shooting tests made with integrated national missiles in April. It is also a force multiplier regarding the fight with terrorism, border protection and national defense power.

The Bayraktar TB2 project has a record-breaking local share in the defense industry, with a 93 percent participation rate. It is also the first system that has completed test approval procedures designated by the military and the defense industry.

Since counter terror operations started in August 2016, 301 PKK terrorist in total have been killed in Hakkari province, and 34 of them have been killed in Yüksekova district, the Hakkari governorate stated.
