Turkish military destroys 38 Daesh targets in northern Syria

The Turkish military shelled 38 Daesh targets, while air strikes destroyed 13 terrorist positions in northern Syria on Saturday as Operation Euphrates Shield officially entered its first month.

Fighter jets hit 13 Daesh positions in Al Mutminah, Ziyadiyah, Tall Atiyah, Al Athariyah, Sandarah and Tall Ashah, destroying one Dochka [anti-aircraft gun] position and 12 buildings used by Daesh terrorists as military quarters and weapon pits.

According to military sources, a total of 1,220 Daesh targets have been shelled since the start of the operation on August 24.

Meanwhile, Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA) forces retook control of residential areas in Al Athariyah.

The military is continuing efforts to remove mines and hand grenades in regions cleared from the terrorists, sorces added.

Five Special Duty Force Groups consisting of opposition forces also continue to fight against Daesh terrorists.

The U.S.-led anti-Daesh coalition warplanes also destroyed one bomb-laden vehicle in the Bahvurtah region.Turkey launched Operation Euphrates Shield in cooperation with the FSA on Aug. 24 to clear its southern border of Daesh terrorists and liberate northern Syrian towns from the terrorist group. In less than a day, the FSA, backed by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) liberated Jarablus and continued marching from the east and the west.On Sept. 4, the FSA secured Turkey's entire border with northern Syria from Daesh. Since then, the opposition army has been advancing toward the south. According to the FSA, the operation will continue with the aim of capturing the strategic town of al-Bab in the south.
