Turkish warplanes destroyed PKK terrorist targets in northern Iraq late Monday.

The Turkish military had launched the airstrikes on the targets based on its intelligence gathering between 9 p.m. (0600 GMT) and 10 p.m. (0700 GMT).

An ammunition depot and shelters in the Qandil Mountains were hit, killing a number of terrorists inside, the source, who spoke anonymously due to restrictions on talking to media, said.

The fighter jets returned to their bases safely, the source added.

Separately, an explosives-laden truck left by two PKK terrorists was found in eastern Van province's Ercis district Tuesday, a security source said.

The explosives were later disposed of safely in a rural area near the district.

The two terrorists were also later caught, the source added.

The PKK is also listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU and resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, PKK terrorist attacks have martyred more than 600 security personnel and also claimed the lives of many civilians, including women and children, while more than 7,000 PKK terrorists have been killed in army operations.
